ChromeOS Flex

If you have an old Windows or Mac laptop you can give it a new lease of life by installing ChromeOS Flex. It's basically the OS that runs on Chromebooks. I got a free HP Chromebook with my new phone, and quite like it. I mainly use it for Zoom meetings, but it's light weight and long battery life mean I often use it for emails and web surfing.

ChromeOS Flex effectively turns your old laptop into a Chromebook. It's free and you can get it here:

Make sure you save any files you want to keep before installing it.

It's based on Linux, and it's quite easy to enable Linux on it. I did that on my Chromebook.

If you have an Android phone you will find a lot of the apps on the phone also work under ChromeOS such as Google Docs and Calendar. The same Doc files appear on both and can be edited and saved, with both copies being kept up to date.

I haven't tried it BTW, but you shouldn't have any problems. Google has good support forums if you run into problems.

You can even try it out before installing it by using a USB memory stick.
