Accessing AllStar Nodes Using An Ordinary FM Radio

I performed my experiments using my FT5DE HT, but any FM transceiver with DTMF should work.

You need to be in range of an AllStar repeater such as GB7ZE here in St Leonards-on-Sea, E. Sussex.

Press the PTT (pressel if you are ex-army) and send an appropriate DTMF code, such as *52 (Hub-Net UK) and release the PTT. You should now hear "Hub-Net UK connected to GB7ZE". It's quite busy during the day so you might hear a QSO.

Here is a list of useful DTMF codes:

I have an Auto DTMF mode on my FT5DE with five memories and store the most useful codes in that. You might have something similar.
